CRRC Goals
- To interest high school (HS) students of Chugach region of Alaska in Natural Resource Management (NRM) issues and careers, and
- To enhance course delivery in the Natural Resource Management (NRM) Program taught through the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) distance education for rural students.
High School Intervention Programs
CRRC is developing the following programs to meet their goals:
Program I: Faculty Support Program
In the Faulty Support Program each faculty member selects one of the following course assignments to be included in his/her syllabus: NRM presentation, a fieldtrip of local natural resources, or a natural resource survey. The UAF student gives the presentation in a HS classroom, invites HS students to join him/her on a fieldtrip, or presents his/her work done on a natural resource survey to HS students.
Program II: Video Competition/Conference Program
In the Video Competition/Conference Program HS teachers guide their students in the development of a natural resource science (or survey) video. UAF faculty require NRM students to mentor HS students developing videos. HS students enter a natural resource video competition/conference at CRRC Gathering in March 2009 and/or 2010 held in Anchorage, Alaska
